Al Ingham
I am a husband, a teacher, an artist, photographer, web site designer, and a worshipper. I grew up in a Christian family, and we attended various churches in the area over about 16 years. For my 10th birthday, I got a ¾ sized guitar, which was still too big for my fingers. 2 years later I began having guitar lessons, and immediately took to the blues. At age 15 I began using my talents for God’s people, signing onto the worship team. I have been a part of 4 or 5 different worship teams at various churches.
In 2010, God challenged me to begin worship leading at church. Previously I hadn’t entered into this, because my introvert self never saw myself as a “front” man. It wasn’t that I wasn’t comfortable worshipping on stage, which I have been doing for a while now, but that I wasn’t comfortable thinking of things to say in between sections, welcoming the congregation and making all those links. It is a real challenge that I continue to struggle with. I guess in time, experience will begin to lean on my side. Over this time, I have also begun to write articles on my thoughts of worship, including different ideas regarding what worship is, how to build a team, song choice, and tips and tricks for playing guitar in church.
In 2010, I also began to set up a room in my house to begin recording. Initial stages of this actually ended up being a place to store up all my guitars, and then as I found different instruments for cheap prices, it got bigger and bigger. It now houses a drum kit, an organ, a piano, and a couple of recording mic’s. I am beginning to write and record some of my songs in this space, and am absolutely loving the freedom of writing my own songs, not necessarily for worship teams to use, but for me to use personally between me and God.
