Welcome to Tim Miller’s page

I have experienced life-transformation while serving over the years in nearly every musical and technical role (except drums!) in churches ranging from a small start-up through overseeing all creative arts aspects as the Worship Arts Pastor at my current multi-site location. Besides the wonder of leading congregational worship as we embrace Jesus, I find joy in helping leaders and their teams work through their own times of transition to become more effectively fruitful. As we journey to the Lord's throne, there's always something new to discover - in Him, in myself, and in one another. Learn more about me

BARAK: Blessing the Lord This Hebrew word for praise (pronounced baw-rak’), refers to making an action of thanksgiving (a verb) rather than a thing to be given or created. It is most commonly translated to mean either “kneel” or “bless.” It is contained in 289 verses, only 68 of which are in the Psalms. One [...]

Worship Planning: Disband The Worship Team? (Part 2)

Read Part 1. The trouble started out when I sat down with my worship leadership team to do an honest assessment of how our teams could improve and better handle transition, increase flexability, and provide ministry opportunities. We discovered that the arrangements created by the set teams had become pretty stale. What we assumed to [...]

Worship Planning: Disband The Worship Team – Part 1

It’s true. A year ago we pulled the plug on all of our beloved church worship teams. We didn’t give up on contemporary worship. On Sunday you still see a leader backed by guitars, keys, drums, and bgv’s. The congregation still engages. We just don’t have set bands anymore. And our bands had been working [...]

We’ve been exploring different ways people approach the biblical command to outwardly express interaction with the Lord. We’ve recognized the confusion that may result for a guest who has not been exposed to our form of worship. So far we have talked about bowing, praying, taking offerings, and making proclamations. Let’s take a look at [...]

Leading Worship: Fish Out Of Water: Proclaiming

On page after page of the Bible, the Lord tells us to proclaim to everyone and everything – near and far, sinner & saint, individuals, people with no power, leaders of nations, to all generations including those yet unborn, to ourselves, to spiritual forces, to all creation, to the Lord Himself. In scripture I found [...]

Leading Worship: Fish Out Of Water: Congregational Prayer

In the last post I wrote about how groups of people create their own ways to express Biblical forms of worship. Although the Bible commands, requests, suggests, and instructs people to worship in various ways, it doesn’t usually spell out the details. God lets us put our own spin on worship. He wants it to [...]

Leading Worship: Fish Out Of Water: Offering

In my last post, I talked about those awkward fish-out-of-water moments during worship time when some people just don’t know what to do or how to fit in. The Bible is really strong on telling us to praise the Lord, but it gives us lots of flexibility regarding the how-to’s. Many scriptures address worship, including [...]

Leading Worship: Fish Out Of Water During Worship: Bowing

Thumbnail image for Leading Worship: Fish Out Of Water During Worship: Bowing by Tim Miller November 15, 2011 leading worship

We’ve been talking about the gap between biblical instructions for worship and the resulting approaches people take to accomplish that. Let’s get a little more specific. Take bowing. It’s something we’re supposed to do. A quick count revealed at least 14 times in which the Bible instructs or commands people to bow before the Lord. [...]
