Leading Worship: Bring Camp to Church

I recently spent a week leading worship at a Senior High camp in Iowa.  It was great.  And probably the best thing about it for me was the enthusiasm during worship.

On Sunday mornings at church we greet each other with a smile, a wave, a handshake, maybe even a hug.  Then we find our place in our reserved pew (or chair) and enter into worship.  At camp we greet each other with a high five, a big bear hug, maybe even a little dance of celebration.  What’s the difference?  Well, I think we let our guard down at camp.  We relax and let ourselves become vulnerable.  Vulnerability: what a concept!

When we’re vulnerable, we allow the Holy Spirit to move… to search us and know us.  He can and will do mighty things if and when we let Him!

The next time you go to church on Sunday morning, greet someone with a huge smile, a hug and maybe even pick them up off the ground and tell them that you love them.  Put your arm around them and let them know how truly glad you are to see them.  Pretend you’re at camp.  Relax.  Let your guard down.  Be vulnerable.  Bring camp to church.

Raiding the kitchen after dark,
