Conrad’s Thoughts on Video Production

by Conrad Weaver on January 26, 2010

Here it is, my first official blog post for Worship Ministry.  I’m excited to begin this new journey with you, that is, assuming you’ll join me.  I’ll work hard to keep these posts interesting, sometimes funny (my kids just roll their eyes), informative, and useful. What good is a blog post if it’s not useful in some way.

My chief objective here is to give you relevant information about the use and implementation of video in the worship experience.  As you can read in my bio, I’m a video producer with my own production company; but what I didn’t tell you is that I’ve also been a worship leader serving in various roles over the past 30 years of my involvement in ministry (yes, I started young!). I’ve done a little bit of everything in the church service worship experience: I’ve sung in the choir, played in the band, led the vocal team, led the band; I’ve been the producer, technical director, sound engineer, lighting and stage set designer, main speaker, power point designer, camera man, video director, and even chief bottle washer – oh yeah, that was a fun job.

These unique experiences have helped me to develop a passion for crafting meaningful, God-encountering worship experiences.  If people’s lives aren’t changed or challenged by coming to a church service, then why should we go to all the trouble?  That’s what it’s all about-people’s lives begin changed with eternal consequences. That’s what makes it worth all the blood, sweat, and tears we shed putting together weekend services.

In these blog posts I’m going to focus in on the use of video: the good, the bad, and, yes, even the ugly. I’ll tell you up front that I don’t know it all, I don’t have all the answers. But hopefully, through this journey and with God’s help we’ll  learn from each other and help make our churches better and more effective in fulfilling the mission we’ve been called to fulfill.

I welcome your feedback, criticism, questions, and even your answers.

Thanks for reading.
