Travis Gouge
Born into a family of musicians, Travis
Gouge has been around Christian music his entire life. His parents
were founders of a southern gospel group where
as a child he quickly learned the art of drumming by studying other
drummers and by absorbing himself in the instrument. Travis actually
started playing on the Worship team at The Praise Center in Monroe,
GA at age 9 and 30 years later, leading worship has become his true
passion.
During his teenage
years, Travis began experimenting with Christian Rock music and began
studying groups such as Petra, Rez Band, and White Heart just to name
a few. This led to other avenues of Ministry by joining, playing,
and recording with more edgier Christian rock bands during the late
1980′s and early 1990′s.
In his early
twenties, Travis excluded all other drumming asparations and
concentrated on the Worship band at The Praise Center. Travis says
“It takes a while for some of us to learn the difference between
being a musician and being a worship leader….I was one of those
people”. He now loves teaching drummers and other musicians to
“worship” with their instrument and not just “play” their
instrument.
Travis resides in
Loganville, GA with his wife Brooke, who also leads worship with him.
He has a daughter and son, 3 cats and 2 dogs. In his spare time
Travis loves playing video games with his kids, and cooking with his
beloved wife. Travis says “Even after playing worship music for
30 years, I believe I am (and all of us for that matter) are still
only scratching the surface on our calling as Worship Leaders. There
is so much more that we have yet to discover and unlock. Getting
closer to God’s heart is an ongoing journey. I am ready to continue
to go deeper with Him as I get older.”
