There is something about doing a set that is familiar for everyone…your band, your sound and media teams, and especially your congregation. We all know this set list so there is not a lot of leading that needs to be done here. I think this is important for us as worship leaders to do on a regular basis. Songs that we all know, so we don’t get to complicated, where we can just close our eyes and worship God. That said, Everlasting God has a great Lincoln Brewster guitar solo and you need to have a musician that can nail that lead. Just because songs are familiar does not mean our musicianship can take a step down. Still put your best foot forward, do everything with excellence!
Also in this set list, we have a male lead vocal on Everlasting God and Amazing Love, and a female lead vocal on Hosanna and Revelation Song. Everlasting God is kind of gritty and a male vocal fits well as it does with Amazing Love. However, Hosanna and Revelation Song just have to have a female vocal lead. Really listen to the recordings of both these songs and I think you’ll understand why. That said, don’t do it the way I suggest it be done. Pray about what God wants done in your particular setting and always follow the leading of the Holy Spirit!
